Quality free range eggs from sustainable farming in the heart of Britain..

The finest quality free range eggs
from the heart of Oxfordshire.

Manor Farm has been in the Lay family for over four generations and since 2009 has independently supplied the best free range eggs from sustainably farmed, selected Hy-Line hens.

The welfare and happiness of our hens is our highest priority, as we know a happy hen produces the best quality product with a creamy smooth white and luxurious rich golden yolk.

Our Heritage

Our family have been farming in Fyfield, Oxfordshire for more than 120 years.

St John’s College, Oxford owned more than 650 acres of land at Manor Farm, Fyfield and the tenancy was passed to Mr William Hazel Lay in 1897, by the then president of St John’s college Rev. James Bellamy.

It is a well know saying in Oxfordshire that you can’t travel between Oxford and Cambridge without leaving St John’s college land!

The tenancy has been passed down through four generations of this farming dynasty and is now held by me, Ben Lay.

Meet Ben

In 2009 I took the decision to extend the farm beyond the tenancy and with land accumulated throughout the generations, started a free-range poultry business, starting with a flock of 4,000 birds that has now grown to 8,000.

I am passionate about farming conditions and the welfare of the birds, in this bucolic setting nestled just beneath the Ridgeway, the birds have more than 20 acres of land to graze.

Whilst the business has successfully been providing eggs to the wholesale market, I made the decision to bring supply closer to home and concentrate on smaller outlets, thus cutting down our carbon footprint and supporting the buy local initiative currently growing in the UK.

Our Produce

Our free-range eggs have a more natural coloured yolk because they’re laid by hens on a varied, nutrient-rich diet.

Our hens eat vegetarian feed with no animal by-products, then peck around in the field to snack to their heart’s desire on, worms and other insects.

Now, imagine those gorgeous golden yolks spilling out as you dig into that plate of homemade cooked eggs next Sunday.

With only 72 calories in a single free-range egg, plus they also contain the highest protein quality and are one of the few natural sources of Vitamin D, you can fill up with a hearty, healthy selection for breakfast.

Our Customers

Our current independent customer base range from top London retailers to fine dining restaurants.

Our Hens

Here at Manor Farm our eggs are produced by our beautiful 8,000 strong flock of Hy-Line Brown hens. We selected these hens as they are truly the "cream of the crop" in the hen laying industry with their higher than average laying rates and balanced quality eggs. With the right environment, food and care they are pretty much unbeaten in the egg laying world.

Welfare

The happiness of our birds is so important to us. With acres of fields and environments to investigate, our hens are free to do what comes most naturally to them, socialising, eating, preening and of course... laying eggs!

Our expert team here at the farm are passionate about our eggs, they work tirelessly every day to ensure the welfare of our flock and therefore the consistent quality of our products.

All Things Eggs

"Sunshine in a shell" - eggs are one of a few products to contain naturally occuring Vitamin D. With many of us spending longer periods indoors, maintaining our Vitamin D levels through food is essential for sustainable energy levels and reducing depression. Not to mention they're really tasty and extremely versatile.

In association with a few of our fantastic retailers and restaurants we will soon be regularly featuring a new recipe for you to try and enjoy with your latest supply of Ben Lay's Free Range eggs.

Sustainability

At Ben Lays Eggs Ltd we are passionate about protecting the environment and our sustainable origin.

Our farming practices are designed to enhance welfare, protect the land and local wildlife and support the local economy. Our business is very proactive in our community with many staff members living just a short walk from the farm.

We are committed to ensuring our daily activities and packaging are all focused on recycling, re-using and reducing. Our packaging is 100% recyclable and produced from re-purposed products. Our farm is also geared up to reduce water consumption by re-using harvested rain water.
